Description: Creating dynamic, engaging lesson plans can be a puzzle for even seasoned teachers, and it is not something that can be learned in a day. Join us for this ongoing community of practice which will cover the foundations of lesson planning for adult learners in ABE, HSE, and ESOL contexts as well as your choice of topics such as teaching multilevel classes, optimizing use of digital tools, culturally responsive teaching, and Universal Design for Learning. This initiative will also provide participants with holistic support via one-on-one meetings with the course facilitators, collaborative small group sessions with peers, and classroom support from facilitators. This community of practice includes approximately 24 hours of online synchronous learning and 20 hours of out of class work. Class size will be limited to 15 participants to be selected via application. Registrants are required to attend all sessions.

Upon completion, you will be able to:

  • Conceptualize theories of learning as they apply to the planning of lessons
  • Write a lesson plan that accomplishes the learning outcomes outlined in the lesson objectives
  • Modify materials to support access to content by All students
  • Demonstrate the ability, in lesson plans and/or observed teaching, to implement 2-4 of the core theories and frameworks leaned in our meetings
  • Effectively incorporate best instructional practices for use of technology in in-person teaching
  • Implement Culturally Responsive Teaching practices for both online and in person teaching
